John Cortes has filed to run again for the House seat currently held by fellow Democrat, Rep. Ricardo Rangel. Cortes dropped out in 2012 due to family reasons.
Incumbent Rep. Matt Caldwell, R-Lehigh Acres, secured a strong lead over competitor Matt Miller in the Republican House District 79 primary with 61 percent of the vote, sending him back to Tallahassee for another term.
Lee Douglas, the only Democrat in the race, did not qualify Friday. Rep. Eric Eisnaugle still has two other challengers for his Orlando seat.
